Update: This event is now complete and we want to congratulate Prof. Gaine, Dr. McCullagh and their UK colleagues on their endurance cycle battling fatigue and the elements to make it through to the finishing line at the Mater Hospital 3 days and 400Km on from their departure from Sheffield. We particularly want to offer our sincere gratitude to all those who donated to our JustGiving appeal on behalf of PHA Ireland, your generosity is very much appreciated. We are keeping the appeal open a little longer for those who still wish to make a donation, you can find the donation page via the Donate button at the end of this article.

The Ireland and UK Consultant team completed their marathon effort by holding a video conference for PH patients and health professionals on the latest developments in the treatment and care of pulmonary hypertension. Commencing Thursday 28th September, consultants from specialist PH centres across Ireland and the UK will cycle from Sheffield to Dublin to show support for patients and raise money for the PHA UK. The Irish contingent will be our own Prof. Sean Gaine and Dr. Brian McCullagh of the National Pulmonary Hypertension Unit, Mater Hospital.

This epic cycle will take three days and cover around 250 miles. The group will depart from the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, catch a ferry from Liverpool to Belfast, and then ride down to the Mater Hospital in Dublin.

Recognising that the journey with PH can be very hard for patients and their families and requires great endurance and fortitude, they want to show their support by travelling their own challenging journey and raise essential funds for PH patient care and support.

If you feel able to support our intrepid cyclists in aid of PHA Ireland please use the button below to donate on our dedicated JustGiving page. All fundraising will be transferred to the Mater Hospital Foundation for use in supporting pulmonary hypertension patients, their carers and activities focused on improving PH awareness to achieve earlier diagnosis and better outcomes for sufferers.
